After years of success on the WCT of surfing which included, being named the WCT’s World Title Runner Up, 3 wins at the Billabong Pro Tahiti and an X-Games gold medal Keala decided to take a break to pursue her other passions -acting and DJ’ing. Keala first discovered her love for acting when she played herself in Universal’s female surf flick, Blue Crush, and later played Kai in the HBO series John From Cincinnati.
While Keala still makes time to go to acting class in Honolulu she has returned to surfing in order to achieve her ultimate goal of becoming the first female pro free surfer. If anyone is capable of changing the face of women’s surfing, why not the woman who has already done it once with her 2005 Teahupoo tow-in.
“The first time I had açaí was in Brazil during WCT event at Bara Da Tajuca. A Brazilian friend gave it to me before one of my heats and it gave me tons of energy. I made the finals and got one of my best results all year! After that first time trying açaí in Brazil I didn’t get to try it again for years, not until Sambazon brought it to America. When I found out there was a company distributing açaí in America I immediately wanted to get involved with them because açaí is a product I believe in. I like açaí bowls with granola and bananas on top, usually my favorite time to eat one is in the morning because it gives me energy that lasts all day. Although sometimes if I’m craving a cool treat in the afternoon i’ll have another!
