Sambazon Wins Secretary of State Award for Corporate Excellence!

Very happy to share the news that we were just named a winner of the prestigious Secretary of State's Award for Corporate Excellence (A.C.E.).!     Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice presented the award on November 6 in Washington, DC.  US companies were chosen from 55 nominations submitted by American Ambassadors around the world for the good work being done in foreign countries. The other two A.C.E. winners named were General Motors for their work in Colombia and Goldman Sachs for their work in Chile.

"Sambazon is an outstanding example of the positive impact that a small company can make to the economy, the environment and the society of its host country," said Condoleezza Rice, U.S. Secretary of State at the 2006 A.C.E. Ceremony.  "Sambazon was selected for efforts to promote sustainable development in the Brasilian Rainforest, while improving the conditions of indigenous people through creative marketing of the açaí fruit."

CEO/founder Ryan Black accepted the A.C.E. award from Secretary Rice and  spoke at the ceremony in Washington.  Riva Gusmao, Managing Director of Sambazon Brasil,  participated via satellite from a special ceremony at the U.S. Embassy in Brasilia, Brasil with the Honorable Clifford Sobel, U.S. Ambassador to Brasil.

We are very excited that the US Government is recognizing a small company like ours and hope this inspires others to create businesses that create positive change.

GMO Alert

Let me first say that here at Sambazon we only produce organic products that do not use any GMOs (genetically modified organisms).  Here in the USA, GMOs are getting into more and more of the food you eat everyday.  Are there GMOs in your kids' school lunches?  The soda you drink?  The cereal you eat?  The answer is most likely YES.   Today most products that contain soy or corn (especially high fructose corn syrup - found in many sodas, energy drinks etc.) do contain GMOs (unless stated specifically No GMOs- they are probably there).  This is not the case in other parts of the world where nations have demanded an end to GMO crop cultivation.  Over 5 years ago in Europe, the public made it clear they would not purchase products with GMOs and all the major food companies were quick to remove them -- but that is not the case here in the USA.  The companies that produce GMOs have a strong lobby and the public is not aware of what's going on. Official policy claims that foods are no different and do NOT require safety testing.  A manufacturer can introduce a GM food without even informing the government or consumers.  Bottom line is this:  don't buy foods that contain GM ingredients.  This includes the four major GM crops-- corn, soy, cotton (used in cottonseed oil) and canola.  Also, Aspartame is derived from GM processes so avoid it.  Learn more about GMOs and what's really going on at http://www.seedsofdeception.com To take action and participate in campaigns against genetically energineered food visit http://thecampaign.org
