EVENT /// International Surfing Day
International Surfing Day was created to celebrate surfing and protect our beaches
and ocean waters. This year, the day hosted beach cleanups at nearly 100 beaches in the US and worldwide.
On the West Coast, we partnered up with The Quiksilver Foundation and The Bolsa Chica Conservancy to celebrate International Surfing Day at Bolsa
Chica,
CA. Amidst the drizzle and overcast skies we served up Rio bowls, juices and energy drinks, keeping the 200+ people that participated in Saturday's
beach cleanup stoked. Plus Quiksilver and Sambazon raffled off gear, with proceeds going to the Bolsa Chica Conservancy to help protect the
wetlands.
On the East, we worked with the Surfrider Foundation at Coco Beach, FL. Overall, the bicoastal crews of volunteers and positive organizations were
able to clean up two of the country's most visited beaches... and we hope that with growing ocean awareness, it will stay that way.

ATHLETE PROFILE /// Zdeno Chara Wins NHL Norris Trophy
As hockey season came to an end in April, the Boston Bruins didn't stop with the
momentum. Last week in Las Vegas, the NHL's award show brought four Bruins team members, including Sambazon ambassador Zdeno Chara, into the
spotlight
with prestigious awards honoring their incredible performances this year.
Chara had a spectacular year, finishing the regular season with 19 goals and 31 assists and led a Boston defense that allowed the fewest goals per
game in the league. Stepping up to receive his first Norris Trophy - "an annual award given to the defense player who demonstrates throughout the
season the greatest all-round ability in the position" - Chara told the crowd, "I'd like to congratulate all the nominees and others who won awards
tonight. I feel very humbled to win this prestigious award."

CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE /// World Oceans Day - June 8, 2009
This year, the UN declared the first annual World Oceans Day acknowledging the
crucial need to start take care of our oceans. And thanks to a host of environmental watchdog organizations that have been concerned about issues of
overfishing, pollution and ecological destruction, the health of our oceans is starting to be addressed by the media. So, what can you do? First get
informed.
We saw the End of the Line at it's Sundance Premiere this winter and were blown away. Now, the End of the Line - The world's first major documentary about the devastating effect
of overfishing - is coming to theatres all over the world, so make sure to check it out.
Then spread the word, start eating only sustainable seafood (download the Marine Conservation Society's guidelines), and get
involved with your local ocean watch group!

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH /// Chad Woolery
|
Chad Woolery is Sambazon's National Sales Manager in the Natural Foods Channel. He manages our national broker network within natural foods,
calling on key customers like Whole Foods Market - basically, he makes sure you can find our entire line of organic açaí products
nationwide.
After spending time traveling frequently to Brazil training and competing in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Chad joined Sambazon in early 2003. And ever since
then, Chad hasn't wavered from his daily breakfast smoothie made with Sambazon Açaí Smoothie Packs.
Based in Austin, Texas, Chad can often be found exercising at Austin's town-lake and hanging out at Barton Springs pool. He loves spending time with
family, attending Bible studies, listening to People to People Ministries, and most recently wedding planning with his beautiful fiancé Katrina!
And is extremely excited for the big day this September in Charleston, South Carolina!
Chad tells us that his favorite thing about Sambazon is "eating açaí, working with great people, selling incredible products, and then
eating more açaí."
