Q:I love your products and drink a supergreens for breakfast every morning, I’m wondering if I should be eating more or less açaí to get the full benefits of the berry?
A: There is no USDA guideline on how much açaí one should consume in a day. Antioxidant research suggests we should get at least 3000-5000 ORAC units per day to significantly impact antioxidant activity, and reduce as much free radical damage as possible to your body’s cellular structure. On average, most Americans are only taking in about 1200 ORAC units per day, well below recommended levels. One Pack of Sambazon Acai has about 6000 ORAC units, one of our açaí juices have anywhere 5,000- 15,000 ORAC units, so you’re right on target.

EVENT /// NYC Yoga Benefiting Haiti
This Friday, Sambazon is doing its part to help out the Haiti Relief movement. Sambazon will be donating to the New York City Reflections Yoga studio evening benefit for Haiti.

RECIPES /// Purple Oatmeal
In the winter, I like to take my smoothie packs out of the freezer and float them in a bowl of warm water while I begin cooking my oatmeal. When the oatmeal is almost done, I add the thawed açaí packs and berries into the mix. Here's my morning recipe:
- 1 and 1/2 cups of water
- Pinch of sea salt
- Big dash of cardamom
- 1/4 cup of OG raisins
- 1/2 cup of quick rolled oats
- Pinch of Organic Stevia for sweetness (if using unsweetened acai)
Place all ingredients in a pot and cook oats like normal. At the very end, to protect the pigments from excess heat, add:
- 1/4 cup of frozen cherries or any other frozen berry
- 2 thawed Sambazon Açaí Smoothie Packs (Pure, Pure Fuzion, or original)
Top with 1 tablespoon Walnuts, 1 tablespoon Pumpkin seeds and 2 tablespoons of Manitoba Harvest Brand Shelled Hemp Seed. The entire recipe yields roughly 20 grams of vegan protein!

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH /// Toby Taylor
|
Toby is our South East Promotions Manager. He drives around the massive green Sambazon van and is the mastermind behind all of our event marketing in the region. If you've seen Sambazon out at events or tried our products at in-store demos, chances are you've talked to him or one of his brand ambassadors.
Prior to Sambazon, Toby was the Director of Sports Marketing for the Healthy Beverage Company, after retiring from the Orange County Fire Rescue Department and Orlando Florida Lieutenant Paramedics. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s got so much energy you can usually find him surfing, cycling, golfing, yoga-ing, or hanging out with his three kids, Adam, Dylan and Lea who are all professional action sports athletes.
Toby tells us he loves meeting people, and turning them on to Sambazon Açaí! After all, he loves the stuff so much he can’t make his mind up on a favorite product… he just says "Açaí!"
