EVENT /// Carlsbad Marathon
The Carlsbad Marathon drew 10,000 runners to it’s half and full marathon course last month. In true Sambazon style, we went out to support at the pre-race Expo as well as the finish line where we were able to hand out over 6000 Sambazon juices to all the triumphant finishers. It was amazing to see so many people accomplish what many see as the impossible.

RECIPES /// Heart shaped chocolate açaí tart
- 3 tablespoons slivered blanched almonds
- 6 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/4 cups (spooned and leveled) all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cut into pieces
- 12 ounces bittersweet chocolate, coarsely chopped
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 3 tbsp Sambazon PowerScoop, freeze dried Açaí
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Make dough in a food processor. Pulse almonds until finely ground. Add sugar, flour, and salt and pulse until combined. Add butter, pulsing until coarse crumbs form with no large butter lumps. Immediately transfer dough to individual heart shaped tarte pans and evenly press dough in bottom and up sides of pan.
Bake in center of oven until golden brown and firm to the touch, about 20 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely, about 1 hour.
Ganache: Place chocolate in a large mixing bowl. In a small saucepan, bring cream to a boil. Mix açaí into hot cream and pour over chocolate. Stir until smooth and creamy in texture. Mix in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture into center of cooled tart shell and let stand until cool and set. Decorate as desired.

EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH /// Katie Markert
|
Katie Markert is our Northwest Sales Representative. She works directly with our Seattle based distributor to make sure Sambazon is ample & on the shelf in the Northwest. She is friendly and an incredible asset in establishing new relationships to further Sambazon’s availability throughout the region.
Before Sambazon, Katie held a myriad of jobs from grocery staff to USDA forest service to sales for Guayaki Yerba Mate, so we knew she was great even before she got here. Katie has done events and sales for Sambazon for some time now, but has finally settled back in her hometown of Seattle. She lives with her boyfriend in a small house where they garden, cook and play music together. Katie says that "my passion in life is plants, but my plan is to work on restoring and greening the planet with native plants and diversity," which fits right in with Sambazon's goal of preserving the Amazon rainforest for generations to come."
When we asked Katie why she likes Sambazon, she immediately said it's because of "how fresh the products are, the triple bottom line business model and how they set an example that other businesses can follow."
Well, that's what we do strive to do and with amazing team members like Katie, it has become a way of life!
