FEATURE STORY/// Evan Marks and The Ecology Center
Sambazon Warrior Evan Marks is first and foremost an environmentalist. With a background in sustainable agriculture, Evan founded the San Juan Capistrano Ecology Center in 2008, and has since then dedicated himself to spreading knowledge and resources into the local communities to help everyone green their lives, homes and gardens. He’s even compiled all the knowledge from The Ecology Center into a D.I.Y. handbook called Backyard Skills.
Most recently, the Ecology Center unveiled a new geodesic dome greenhouse that has become a nursery for seeds and a place where children can learn about planting, growing and tending to young plants. We at Sambazon are thrilled to be able to support such an amazing project!

Q:How does Açaí grow?
A: Açaí is a slender, 40ft to 100ft palm tree that grows in the flooded forest regions of the Amazon Rainforest, so it’s common to see açaí trees line the river banks of the Amazon River and its tributaries. The açaí tree is a renewable resource because multiple tree stocks can grow from one root system. Açaí berries are handpicked atop these palms from around July through November each year.
