Inside Look at Professional Tennis Player: Maegan Manasse
Maegan is a professional tennis player who started on the courts at just four years old. She always grew up around tennis because her parents and two older sisters played in college. Inspired by them, Maegan decided to play tennis at UC Berkeley!
During her time there, Maegan saw many accomplishments including 5X All-American, #1 ITA ranking in both singles and doubles, 2015 ITA All-American Doubles Champion, 2015 ITA National Indoor Singles Finalist, 2016 National Indoor Sportsmanship Award, 2016 PAC-12 Singles Player of the Year, 2016 NCAA Doubles Finalist, 2017 ITA National Indoor Team Champions, and 2017 NCAA Doubles Semifinalist. She loved her time at UC Berkeley and spent her fifth and final year finishing up her degree in Social Welfare while working as the Undergraduate Student Assistant Coach.
After graduating, Maegan knew that this was not the end of playing tennis...thus, the beginning of her professional tennis career.
In her first tournament back after recovering from an elbow surgery during her last year at Berkeley, Maegan played at Bethany Beach, DE capturing the $25k Doubles Title. That summer, she also reached the finals of $15k at Victoria, BC and $60k at Ashland, KY. She’s been playing on the tour for about two years now and has accomplished the following: 2018 Houston $125k Series Doubles Champion; 2019 $25k Osaka, Japan Doubles Champion; 2019 $25k Shenzhen, China Singles Quarterfinalist; 2019 $25k Hengyang, China Singles Quarterfinalist; 2020 $25k Las Vegas, NV Doubles Champion, and career high ranking of 327 (singles) and 175 (doubles) in the world!
In her free time, Maegan loves to cook, bake and draw. One of her favorite things to do is try new foods, especially with all of her traveling! She always makes an effort to go out of her comfort zone and try a food she hasn't tried before. She recently started designing her own greeting cards for all the host families that housed her during tournaments, too. So awesome!

Where do you call home?
I currently live in Redondo Beach. I grew up here and I’m very lucky to live in such a beautiful area. I also lived in Berkeley for over five years. I feel like I can call both Southern California and Northern California my home.
What is your favorite thing about playing tennis?
I love that I can wake up every day and play the sport that I love. Tennis is such an individual sport and although I have such a great supporting team behind me, it’s really challenging yet rewarding being able to compete and problem solve with just myself out there on the court. I also love that professional tennis has provided me the opportunity to travel the world and experience a lot of different cultures.
You’re a very active and healthy person. What are some of your biggest tips for leading this kind of lifestyle?
Finding an activity that you truly enjoy doing makes exercising so much easier. Another big tip if you’re having trouble motivating yourself is staying active with a friend. Working out with others makes things much easier and more enjoyable. Also, it's important to manage your diet. Listen to your body! I try to start the day with yoga and meditation to really see where my body is at that day because every day is different.
What Sambazon products do you incorporate into your routine and why?
The Superfruit Packs are the Sambazon products I use the most because I love having Açaí bowls for my pre-practice fuel. It helps me feel clean and light when I’m doing intense workouts and it keeps me full to last through my 3 hour morning practices. I also love the Amazon Energy Drinks! I have a lot of early morning practices so grabbing a can is quick and easy. I never used to like energy drinks because they taste overly sugary and you have an intense crash, but these energy drinks really get me going while still feeling clean and light, and not having those horrible crashes. I also LOVE the Original Açaí Berry Sorbet. My favorite dessert is ice cream and I’ve been recently trying to cut dairy out of my diet due to medical reasons, and it is such a great replacement. I honestly think I’m starting to like it more than ice cream! Starting and ending the day when I have Sambazon products really makes me feel good and helps me perform at my best!
What’s your favorite Açaí bowl recipe – either from our café or homemade?
My favorite recipe is using the Pure Unsweetened Frozen Açaí Packets, homemade almond milk, blueberries, bananas, strawberries, kale, flax and chia seeds, and almond butter. I top it with homemade granola, bananas, strawberries, and coconut flakes.
What does Sambazon mean to you?
One of the best things about Sambazon is that you can feel good eating it AND know that your purchases are actually helping others in need as well. It is wonderful to see that Sambazon is giving back to not just the community, but the world. I am currently in the process of creating a non-profit organization that provides sustainable tennis programs for children around the world so I understand the importance of giving back to communities. I was very fortunate to grow up in an area that it was easy for me to access tennis courts, but starting this non-profit has made me realize the importance of looking at the core of tennis programs and giving back to others that don't have the same opportunity that I had. That’s why I love Sambazon - because not only is the company supplying organic and Fair Trade Açaí to people, they are giving back to the farmers, Amazon, animals, and communities that are in need.
