Piña Colada Açaí Smoothie

This recipe was inspired by the delicious Piña Colada beverage that is an essential on any tropical vacation. By combining the flavors of pineapple and coconut with the Delicious Powers of SAMBAZON Açaí, this smoothie is the perfect way to enjoy the feelings of vacation from your kitchen.

The History of the Piña Colada

Piña Coladas were believed to have been created in Puerto Rico during the 1950s or 1960s by a bartender Ramón "Monchito" Marrero Pérez. Legend has it that Monchito was working at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan and came up with the delicious combination that is now the Pina Colada. In 1978, the Piña Colada was declared to be the National Drink of Puerto Rico.

Over the years, the Pina Colada has evolved in various ways, with versions incorporating ingredients like fresh fruit, coconut milk, or even ice cream. Despite these variations, the idea of the Pina Colada remains the same—a creamy, fruity concoction that is an excellent to drink on vacation. Today, it's enjoyed around the world as a timeless classic that never fails to evoke feelings of relaxation and vacation bliss.

Why Add Açaí to a Smoothie?

Adding Açaí to a smoothie introduces a unique flavor profile that a basic smoothie may not contain. Açaí provides a delightful combination of tartness and sweetness that can help add depth to your smoothie.

Açaí is a great source of essential fatty acids (omegas 3, 6 and 9).

SAMBAZON Unsweetened Frozen Açaí Superfruit Packs contain 0 grams of sugar, making it an easy way to add more flavor without the added sugars.

Açaí pairs particularly well with other tropical fruits like pineapple, mango, and coconut.
